It was a crazy opening day for the Penguins! We went 1-1-1 across our 3 sports.

Volleyball took a dominant performance to the bank at home against Burke, winning in straight sets 25-17, 25-8, and 25-7. Senior Elizabeth Mejia, who started at libero, was the player of the game, serving 12 straight points in the second set. Volleyball will look to kick off the season with a win streak when they take on Archbishop Carroll tomorrow.

Girls Soccer tied Holy Cross today in a fabulously entertaining game, 2-2. Walls dominated for much of the game but had trouble finishing chances, while Holy Cross didn’t get many chances but made the most of the ones they did. Sophomore Kylie Emanuel had 2 goals, while junior Charlotte Tama was composed at both center back and CDM, making excellent decisions and picture perfect passes.

Boys Soccer fell 2-0 to EL Haynes in a tough loss. Playing without starting keeper Van Harllee (illness) and top center back Kazim Hall (illness), the Penguins struggled to make plays that could have been made. While Tomas Abeledo filled in admirably in goal, a couple of miscues allowed Haynes to put a couple past him. Not much went on at the other end of the field, where the forwards struggled to finish their few opportunities. With no game until next Friday’s tournament, the boys will hope to rework some flaws at practice and hope their keeper and top defender are back by next week.
